Description
he Hennessy Cognac Trading House was founded in France, in 1765 by Richard Hennessy. He served under Louis XV as an officer but was of Irish descent. The Hennessy Cognac first arrived in New York in 1794, according to the Maison archives. From that point on, the drink became exceptionally popular in the USA. It was also one of the first drinks to be labeled in a glass bottle.
Starting by being shipped to Russia in 1818, to Calcutta, India in 1819, to Australia in 1852, to China in 1859... and spreading worldwide, this Hennessy legacy drink spread all around the world! In 1856 in Bras Armé, it became a brand symbol, and considering that the Hennessy brand is commanding approximately 40% of the world's cognac, it is more than obvious that there is a lot of history behind the House of Hennessy. There are around thirteen incredible drinks created by the Hennessy brand, and one of the most popular ones is called Hennessy XO.
Hennessy X.O was created in 1870 by Maurice Hennessy, who decided to create a drink for his circle of friends from a desire to introduce a different style of cognac. Hennessy X.O is the Original, the symbolic icon of the Hennessy Maison. This cognac was the first one to be classified as X.O (extra old). Hennessy XO is also the highest priced cognac, out of the 4 cognac houses.
This Hennessy cognac is deep and powerful, due to the eaux-de-vie being aged in young barrels that are marked out by their energy and power. Hennessy X.O is a blend of about 100 different eaux-de-vie, that are made from the Grande Champagne, Borderies, Fin Bois, and Petite Champagne (from Ugni Blanc grapes) appellations, that are all aged up to 30 in French Limousin oak barrels.
The drink is presented in an beautiful pear-shaped decanter. It has the well-known logo engraved on the bottle, and at the neckband you have a label that says “the original XO”. Hennessy X.O has a deep dark amber color, and it is a premium drink in both looks and taste. Upon opening the bottle, fans are welcomed by a nice aroma of ripe grapes, spices, and a hint of cinnamon spice. The flavor of Hennessy X.O is rather oak sweet with hints of toffee and vanilla, ending with a deep, intense but smooth finish.
